Discord Event Interested

Events have a problem that is entirely about timing. Nobody wants to be the first person interested in an event, because being first means committing to something that might turn out to be you and the host.

So the count sits at one — the host — and stays there, and the event does not happen. Not because the event was bad, but because no one wanted to go first.

How Discord events work

An event has a start time, a location (a voice channel, a stage, or somewhere external), and a description. Members click Interested to be notified when it starts. Discord surfaces upcoming events at the top of the channel list and sends a reminder when one begins.

The interested count is public and updates live. Anyone browsing your server sees it before they see anything about the event itself.

Why the first numbers matter most

Interest compounds. A member who sees thirty people interested reads the event as something happening; a member who sees one reads it as an idea someone had. The second member does not click, which keeps the number at one for the next person.

Raising the initial count breaks that loop. What happens after is down to whether the event is any good — but at least it gets the chance.

Marked-interested accounts will not attend. If forty people are marked interested and six turn up, that reads as normal — event attendance is always a fraction of interest. Set the number where the gap stays plausible.

Where it works best

• Launch eventsThe first event in a new server has no track record to lean on, so the count is doing all the work.
• Game nights and tournamentsPeople join these to be around other people. The count is the entire proposition.
• Streams and watch partiesNobody wants to be the only viewer, and the count is the only evidence available before it starts.
• Community callsAMAs and Q&As live or die on whether the room looks like it will have anyone in it.

What we need

The event link — open the event in Discord and copy its URL. We do not need admin, a token, or your account.

Give us the order well before the event starts. Interest that appears an hour beforehand is worth much less than interest that has been building for a few days, both to Discord's surfacing and to your members.
