Discord Poll Votes

Discord added native polls in 2024. Any member can create one, everyone sees the running totals, and the result sits in the channel permanently. A poll vote is one account choosing one option.

Polls are unusual among Discord features because the result is public and permanent. A poll that closes with four votes does not just fail to inform you — it advertises, in your own channel, that four people were paying attention.

That is the real cost of a quiet poll. Not the missing data, the visible evidence.

How Discord polls work

A poll has a question, up to ten options, and a duration between one hour and a week. Members vote by clicking an option, and the counts update live for everyone. When it closes, the final tally stays in the channel.

Discord shows who voted for what once the poll ends, so votes are attributable rather than anonymous. Everyone in the channel can expand the result and see the list.

Because votes are attributable after close, spreading them across options matters. A hundred votes that all landed on option one, all from accounts nobody recognises, is more conspicuous than no votes at all.

Splitting votes across options

We let you decide how the votes are distributed rather than dumping them on one choice. A believable poll has a winner, a runner-up and a couple of stragglers — that is what real opinion looks like.

If you are running a genuine poll and only want the participation raised, an even-ish spread keeps the outcome honest while making the poll look worth joining. If you want a particular option to win, weight it but leave the others non-zero.

When votes are the right tool

  • Kicking off a new pollThe first few votes are the hardest. Polls with visible activity attract more; polls at zero stay at zero.
  • Community decisionsA vote on server rules or a new channel carries more weight when the turnout looks representative.
  • Content directionAsking what to stream or post next only works if enough people answer for the result to mean anything.
  • Event schedulingTime-slot polls need turnout to be useful, and turnout begets turnout.

The honest limits

If you use votes to fake a mandate for something your members actually dislike, you will find out at the point it matters — when nobody turns up to the event or nobody uses the channel. A poll is a measurement, and breaking your own thermometer is a strange thing to pay for.

Used to get a poll off the ground so real members engage with it, it works well. Used to manufacture a consensus that does not exist, it just moves the problem downstream.

Common questions

Can I choose which option gets the votes?

Yes. Tell us the split you want and we follow it. If you do not specify, we spread them in a pattern that looks like ordinary voting.

Will members see who voted?

Discord reveals voters once a poll closes, so yes — the accounts are visible. This is why the spread matters more than the total.

Does it work on polls in any server?

Any server our bot can see the channel in. You add the bot, we deliver, you remove it.

What happens if the poll expires first?

Votes cannot be added to a closed poll. Give a poll enough runway — a day or more — if you are ordering votes for it.

Is there a minimum?

Yes, and it is deliberately low so you can test on something small before committing to a real poll.
